WHAT I LEARNED THIS TRANSFER WINDOW
WHAT I LEARNED THIS TRANSFER WINDOW
This post is not
necessarily about football, but it just shows that God can use anything to
teach and reach us. And, it is true. Read on.
So yes, I am a
football fan. Who isn’t? You? Oh well, good on you; saves you the nail-biting
tension. And when you support the team I do, which is Arsenal, oh, my, word.
Believe me when I say that supporting that football club is a lesson in Hope:
hope that they will do better, sign who they need, win their games etc.
Hey, don’t tell me to leave them. Been a supporter since
’99, and I love them too much to run away.
Not the Shield of Faith. Not even close.
So, Benzema.
Yes. Arsenal tried
their best to sign him. Newspapers predicted he was moving. Football agents
called it a done deal. A particular football agent said broadcasted it with so
much confidence on Twitter that I had to go through his previous activity.
Scrolling, I saw that EVERY SINGLE TRANSFER he had talked about, had happened.
Sometimes he called it weeks before it was even made official. I remember
convincing a brother of mine who is a Chelsea fan about the authenticity of
this football agent by showing him the tweets, specifically regarding Pedro,
formerly of Barcelona. This agent had predicted that Chelsea would hijack
Manchester United’s move for Pedro for a fee of around 27m pounds (I need this
money mehn!) on the 14th of August, which is more than a week before
he moved to Chelsea. So, like I said, I was convinced. I broadcasted the same
news as well. Benzema was coming to Arsenal. Everything was moving along
smoothly. He’d been convinced. He was even spotted in London after Arsenal had
hired a private jet (I will buy mine) to bring him.
Every Arsenal fan
was experiencing bliss unlike any other.
Then, it all went
downhill fast. Very fast.
(One of the)Word(s) on the
(web)street was that the selling club, Real Madrid, had requested for all the
money up front to fund their own move for a big player they had been chasing,
Marco Reus. A deal this big, the common practice was usually a payment plan of
some sort. They wanted all of the cash. Almost 50m.
Arsenal said no.
That was it. I sat
back and watched as the hope of every Arsenal fan unravelled. No big striker
would come. Not that we don’t have good, competent strikers. This was also a
statement signing, something to say “I am here, I have a great team, and with
the players I have now, I can beat anyone”.
Like I said before,
if you are not a football fan, save yourself the hassle and stick to movies. If
you want to support a team, don’t get emotionally attached; you may watch time
pass by as you invest your time in the lives of others.
But, I digress.
So while I was
thinking about this whole thing, the Holy Spirit prompted me to a VERY
IMPORTANT lesson in all this. The discussion must have been something like
this:
Holy Spirit: So, you
guys didn’t get your man.
Me: Nna ehn, na so we
see am oh. Kai. Not happy, but what can I do?
HS: So what did you
learn here?
Me: Huh? Wetin? I dey
class?
HS: What went wrong?
Me: Nothing.
Everything this man had said was true. Previous history showed it. He was
supposed to come. I believed the man. I belie-…
HS: With a knowing
look: Exactly. You believed. A MAN. You
believed. Joke’s on you. Hehehe.
Me: Not fair.
HS: Hahaha. But
seriously, everything you did was spot on. The belief. The research and
verification. The faith. But -index finger raised-ultimately misplaced. How many times have you done the same thing
regarding your own Faith in GOD and His word? How many times have you convinced
somebody by showing them past history of Him keeping His Word? When things have
looked unlikely, how many times have you gone back to see God do the unlikely?
How many times have you helped someone believe, helped someone build their
Faith?
Me: Err…
HS: Exactly. So, go
forth and replace your Faith in man back to God. And help someone rediscover
his/hers.
Me: Ok. I will. But
please tell me this. Will Arsenal still sign Benzema?
HS: No. Now,
gerrarahere mehn.
Yes, me and the Holy
Spirit dey gist. What? You don’t believe we discuss like this? Ask Him. Let Him
answer you. I don talk my own.
So, no more belief
in agents, or men for me. Or Twitter for that matter. Ha. Now, everything is in
God’s hands. When things seem unlikely, when my success is uncertain even when
He has declared it, I will go back to the Bible to see the evidence of Him
fulfilling His Word. And if that is not enough, I will actively seek
Testimonies of Him giving people breakthroughs, no matter how small or how big.
He is God, after
all. Nothing is too small, or too big for Him to do for me. Or for you, for
that matter. So, I suggest you do the same.
And for crying out
loud, stay away from football! Aaargh! Unless it’s Arsenal, hehehe.
What? Oh, music? Ok.
Today, I will
introduce you to one of my favourite songs of this year. It’s Hip Hop, by one
of the best and most lyrical Christian Rappers out there, Andy Mineo. It’s
titled ‘You Can’t Stop Me’.
Enjoy.
