God's Time vs God's Timetable
GOD’S TIME vs GOD’S TIMETABLE
“God’s Time is the
best…”
How many times have
we heard this phrase? Countless times, I suppose. Show of hands if you have
said it. What? Only me? C’mon, spill. I know you have. Remember that time when
your friend asked you when you were going to enter school? Or when you would find
a spouse? Or that time when…
Okay, here is the
deal.
So a few days back
(maybe last night? Yesterday morning? Meh, who cares?) I let my mind ruminate
on the things I had been learning, things I had read, heard etc, when I
saw/heard this clearly in my head: God’s
Time is different from God’s Timetable.
Hmm.
At once very unclear
and still clear, I wanted to know more. Because you see, even if I didn’t fully
understand what it was, I at once knew this was true, but I needed to know
more. So, I did the next logical thing.
I tweeted it, and
promptly decided to forget about it.
Yep, that’s right.
Heh.
But it didn’t forget
me. No, the phrase stuck in my psyche, the stubborn little bugger (sorry,
phrase). It nibbled away at me slowly, eating me from the inside until I
decided to face it. I opened up myself to the Holy Spirit, and boy, did it
rain.
There is a
difference between God’s Time, and God’s Timetable. God, being the Master
Planner, works with a Timetable. He created seasons. He created the elements to
help us recognize the seasons. Creation is one example of God working with a
Timetable; He devoted one day(season) to a particular project. Check it out.
Read Genesis 1. See how He always achieved something new every day? See how He
never allowed anything spill over into the next day/season? No matter what it
was, whether it was creating light, or creating the diverse forms of life on
Earth, He ALWAYS achieved it within a day/season (just goes to show that God
invented Project management. Beat that. Just, let that sink in for a minute.
Yes, God is super-awesome like that; make something, and then let man think he
did it ‘cos he discovered it. Ha!) Throughout the Bible, we are shown how God
works with a Timetable. Everything followed a predestined Timetable.
Now, this is where
most of us Christians miss it; a Timetable is not Time itself.
*Gasp!* “What do you mean? How can you say that?
Me: Calm down… Hold
your horses.
From the Bible, we
understand that God created everything, including Time. God gave Time
definition and meaning. Time was formless and useless, until God acted. Doubt
it?
Genesis 1: “In the Beginning, God created the heavens and
the earth.”
The beginning of
what?
Time. Time didn’t
exist until God acted. God created Time. Knowing that He had a project to
undertake, God created His Timetable. This, my dear friends, is the beginning
of time management.
Sometimes, we look
at God’s dealings in the Bible and mistake His Timetable for His Time. Based on
God’s Timetable, He had an APPOINTED TIME for everything. Having created us in
His image and likeness, He expects us to do the same. Plan. Have a Timetable
for the Time God has given us.
Why?
Because God’s Time
is NOW. It exists because God exists. It exists because He created it and gave
it definition. Because God IS, Time is as well. God is He who was, is, and is
to come. Time is in the past, present and future. Don’t mistake Time for a
Timetable. Within your Time, there are certain things you pray to God to
achieve. The first step?
Be specific about
the Time period/season you want to achieve it. And make sure it is reasonable.
Don’t pray for a car as a 12-year old. Who do you want to kill?
Next? Find out EVERYTHING you can that there is to know
about that which you want to achieve. Find out what you have to do.
Then like Nike, Just Do It.
Just make sure it is in line with God’s Will, and see His
hand in it. Expect to receive the expected result.
God’s Time is Now.
Having said that, I
think it’s Time for me to go do the thing. You know, the one I planned I was
going to do, but never got around to doing…last week, no wait, last…
Shoot, when was it
again?
Oh boy…
